LIVE EPIC EVERY DAY Born and breed in the Bay of Plenty, New Zealand Mike Dawson grew up paddling the local rivers in his backyard. His competitive career was kick started as a 17-year-old in 2004. In September 2011, Mike became just the fourth New Zealander to qualify for the Olympic Games. He’s also an experienced expedition paddler, having paddled rivers the United States, Africa, Europe, Mexico and throughout New Zealand. Growing up my idea of being successful was being rich, having a career, a flash car and a big house, all the trappings of modern day life. In sport, success is based on results, it’s solely outcome focussed. Now, success has a new meaning. It is a journey of challenges, of highs and lows and feelings of discomfort. It empowers your soul and expands your thinking. It embraces the riches of life and sets you apart from anyone else. Success is living my best life.

A quote by Sterling Hayden says it all ‘To be truly challenging a voyage, like a life, must have a firm foundation of financial unrest. Otherwise, you are doomed to a routine traverse, the kind known to yachtsmen who play with their boats at sea…”cruising” it is called. Voyaging belongs to the seamen and to the wanderers of the world who cannot or will not fit in.
